Fabrication Builds at Part-On!

This blog is to inspire our customers and by-passers of the amazing things that are possible when using aluminium and our fabrication accessories for building / creating.

We use our skills here at Part-On to create furniture, shelving units, information boards and many many other creations.

Think, how can I start to encourage our work force and workplace to step into a leaner future? What areas of my workplace can be improved to increase productivity? What can I create to prevent time wasting in my work force?

We encourage people to explore the topic of lean, 5s, 6sigma and kaizen to see how you can improve your work force / workplace.

See below our examples of how we have used our own products and builds to encourage a productive workplace here at Part-On:

Our Office:

Firstly our in-house designer digitally designed a minimalistic layout of our office to calculate where all our equipment would fit and which position would be most

efficient to avoid time wasting. By pre-planning this we saved a lot of time when moving units as staff where briefed where everything would be placed.

Here you can see my desk in the office. All the desks were made identical from our aluminium and fabrication accessories. Every desk is L shaped for extra space and comfort, they have a built-in shelf for the computer tower and printer to avoid loss of space.

We have a notice board at the end of this desk to feature trays in which paperwork is kept. This helps our staff to locate specific paperwork and ensure there is “a place for everything” to avoid missing documents.

Mini storage to file dispatched paperwork temporary prior the files being archived.

This keeps paperwork safe and secure and easy to locate.

The Warehouse

The warehouse have a profile rack in order to avoid time wasting when picking and packing aluminium profile orders for our customers. This rack ensures the order is kept together and aids stability and 360degree access to the profile in order to wrap it before delivery. This also has wheels so the profile can be easily transported around the warehouse and workshop.

This is a stock shelf for our fabrication works orders. This helps the warehouse separate the “picked in advanced” orders from the rest of the stock, then the jobs are given bin numbers to keep organised and structured to avoid time waste when trying to locate things.

Here is our tool storage cupboard to keep all our tool stock in one location, so any staff member can easily locate where a tool would be in our premises. This is a lockable cupboard to ensure safety and protection.

Tool Workshop

Our Tool service and repair workshop features a bench per engineer which is equipped with air lines, a tool hook, vices per bench, computer, keyboard holders etc. This equipment is located on each engineers bench to avoid walking round to locate things needed -this is a waste of time- the benches have all the equipment located on the bench rather than the work top to ensure the whole worktop is available for use to ensure there is space to dismantle and repair the tools. They have a separate bench for “test out” which is where all the equipment needed is also located, eg. Different types of fasteners so the engineers can test the tool can set rivets correctly before dispatch.

Engineers in each department(tool and fabrication engineers) have a shadow board to ensure their tools are kept in a specific location, this encourages tidiness and helps to avoid losing equipment.

Fabrication Workshop

The fabrication work shop is equipped with a large L shape counter desk to ensure space when cutting, drilling etc, conveyors are located across the wall either side of the saw the aid productivity when cutting profile the conveyor aid the push the aluminium across the workshop and through the saw for cutting. Another large portable table is located in the centre of the workshop, so large products can be assembled with ease.

Each fabrication engineer has their own portable bench with a draw, shadow board and tray in order to keep things safe such as PPE and tools and this allows the engineers to have their own area to work and keep documentation.

Machine enclosures are key! We built machine enclosures for certain equipment in order to encourage a more safe environment, decrease risks of injury and adhere to health and safety regulations.

Our aluminium storage shelf is made of aluminium accessories and mesh. This shelf allows us to keep offcuts of profile safe for possible future use, this storage options helps to keep stock safe and in a neutral location.

Due to our engineers not being digitally active (emails, etc) during the working day they have a minimalistic bench in order to save space in the workshop but still allow them to utilise digital equipment if needed.

What a “fab” idea this was! Our fabrication engineers have a information board to hold documentation (drawings, parts list etc) securely and safely for the engineer to utilise. The fabrication co-ordinator uses this information board to avoid wasting time in the morning, before the engineers arrive the documentation of the works order and put in priority order so the engineers are aware which tasks to work on, in which order without question or confusion.
